Case Overview
The Supreme Court held that the Constitution protects a woman's liberty to choose an abortion. The decision created a trimester framework: the state cannot regulate abortion in the first trimester, can regulate in the second to protect maternal health, and can prohibit in the third trimester when the fetus is viable. Overruled in 2022 by Dobbs v. Jackson.
